3.1. How to be a Specialist Governor 1: Link Governor

The Link Governor's role is to have oversight of all matters relating to training and development for governors.

3.2 How to be a Specialist Governor 2: SEN Governor
All schools should have an individual governor with designated responsibility for Special Educational Needs (SEN) in the same way as they have named governors for Literacy, Numeracy and other specialist areas of the curriculum

Having governors designated with a specific interest in areas of the curriculum will enhance the collective knowledge and understanding of the whole governing body.

The aim of school governing bodies is to strive to improve the quality of education for all pupils

Effective governing bodies identify the priority issues in which it needs to be directly involved, including statutory responsibilities, and delegates the remainder to committees, working groups and individuals.

Governing Bodies establish committees in order to spread workload and to free up time at Full Governing Body meetings for discussions that focus on the strategic direction of the school.

Associate Members are appointed by the Governing Body to attend committee meetings and / or full Governing Body meetings. They are not Governors.
