Supporting Governor Recruitment

Governance Consultancy has compiled a selection of promotional literature which is designed to assist schools with the process of governor recruitment. Although it is the responsibility of schools to recruit parent and community governors onto the governing body, we do appreciate that some schools have difficulties with recruitment and trust that the literature will be of support to the governing body when recruiting new governors.

- Be a Surrey School Governor describes in simplistic terms the role of a governor and is intended to support both parent and community governor recruitment. The leaflet could be displayed in the school entrance or distributed to parents when undertaking a parent election or made available in the local library, churches and doctors’ surgeries etc. The leaflet can be adapted to include your own school details and contact information on the back page.

- A copy of So You Want to be a Governor – a Good Governance Guide – has been revised and we hope you will find this leaflet useful to pass onto people who express an interest in becoming a governor and want to understand more clearly the roles and responsibilities of governors before making their final decision.

- A further Good Governance Guide, Induction, is intended to support the school by identifying successful methods of welcoming and mentoring a new governor into the role and in particular into your own school.

- Once you have that new governor on board, the leaflet entitled Some Tips on How to Keep a Governor! may also be of use to your school as it includes some common sense suggestions to ensure governors are nurtured and will be encouraged to continue in the role beyond their first four year term!
