About Natalie Perera
Natalie worked in the Department for Education from 2002 to 2014. She helped to deliver the 2005 Childcare Act through Parliament, leading on the delivery of a new duty on local authorities to secure sufficient childcare. Natalie also led on research and policy interventions to narrow the gap between disadvantaged children and the rest, including the design and delivery of two new early years programmes to support children’s early language and social and emotional development.
After leading on the Department’s spending review bid for children and family services in 2010, Natalie then took up post as the Head of the School Funding Reform Unit where she led on the design of a new national funding formula, allocation of the Pupil Premium, reform of academies funding and funding for universal free school meals. During this time, Natalie led a radical series of reforms to simplify school funding and improve transparency between local areas.
Between 2014 and 2015, Natalie was seconded to the Cabinet Office where she worked in the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office.
Natalie is also a school governor and Director of a Multi-Academy Trust in South London.
About Darrell Woodman
Darrell Woodman is a trainer and Director of Art of Brilliance Ltd. He was plucked from a leadership role within media, where he spent time helping develop industry talent. Instilling positivity, confidence and self-belief has been a major factor in his coaching.
Darrell joined the ‘brilliant’ team in 2011 working with businesses such as Ernst & Young, National Grid and Astra Zeneca as well as numerous NHS regions, schools and other public sector organisations.
Darrell has an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology and is co-author of the best-selling book ‘The Art of Being a Brilliant Teenager’ (Capstone 2014).
About Hayley Dunn
Hayley’s background is in accountancy and finance, having worked in the private and public sectors. She is a qualified accountant and has held senior business leadership roles in the maintained and academies sector, most recently as the finance director of a multi-academy trust. She was one of the Institute of School Business Leadership’s (ISBL) CEO Award winners in 2017 and is the author of the recently published School Business Manager’s Handbook.
About Carl Fagan
Carl Fagan first joined the Department for Education in 1999 and has worked in a number of roles in public sector finance, procurement and HR as well as Lifelong Learning policy development. Since becoming a School Efficiency policy official, his work has included the Review of Efficiency in the Schools System (2013), the School Business Manager Grant (2014), the publication of school efficiency tools (2016), a new online benchmarking service (2017) and the School Finance Self-Assessment tool (2018). He has also been governor at a primary school in Halton.
