Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Status
Babcock 4S are part of the HLTA National Assessment Partnership (HNAP), and as HNAP we have the combined experience of assessing candiates since 2003, when the status was intorduced, and have been responsible for the assessment of more than 53,000 HLTAs nationwide.
HLTA status can only be awarded through the HLTA National Assessment Partnership. If you are in London or south east England you will need to access the preparation and assessment through Babcock 4S to enable you to achieve HLTA status.
We hope you will find the information on this website useful as you seek to find out more about HLTA status. The Babcock 4S HLTA team is always pleased to help with individual enquiries.
Before making a decision of whether HLTA is right for you please read through the Why HLTA document listing some benefit to both the candidate as an individual and to the school. All candidates must check they have the relevant level 2 (equivalent to GCSE A*-C grade) maths and English qualification certificates before applying. Please refer to our Level 2 document outlining some of the qualifications we are able to accept.
The process of HLTA follows 9 clearly set out steps Step by Step and is made up of two main elements, 3 day preparation and 1/2 day school assessment.
Any candidate wishing to gain HLTA status must meet the 33 national HLTA standards

Appeals Process
In the unlikely event that a candidate is unhappy about the final outcome of their assessment, there is an appeals process that is clearly followed. In the first instance, we recommend contacting the Babcock 4S HLTA team direct. However, the appeals process is available on request. The appeal must come directly from the candidate. Appeals can only be made on the basis of appealing against the process and not the outcome.
