Safeguarding continues to be of the utmost importance in independent schools and is very high on Ofsted’s list of priorities, so much so that Ofsted have indicated that ‘there is a greater emphasis on safeguarding’ in the Ofsted framework.
The Babcock 4S Safeguarding Audit
The Babcock 4S Safeguarding Audit has been designed to assist schools in ensuring that they comply with current safeguarding requirements and have the required evidence in place to meet the rigours of this important judgement.
The audit takes around 4 hours to conduct and replicates the way in which Ofsted go about making their judgement, but does so by working with the school to identify areas to improve and signposting good practice that exceeds Ofsted’s minimum requirements.
The way we work:
We will agree a date and time for the audit that is convenient to you and identify a named consultant to work with you. This will be confirmed in writing by the issuing of a service agreement. Our consultants are all practitioners with appropriate and relevant experience in safeguarding and school leadership and management.
Prior to the audit, you will be sent a draft timetable indicating what needs to be covered in the audit and approximate timings, but scheduling of the various activities can be arranged to fit alongside school commitments and the availability of key staff and governors.
We will also send you a link to forward onto all your staff members to assess their awareness of safeguarding procedures. This will then be discussed on the day to help you evaluate staff safeguarding training needs.
When the audit is complete, our consultant will provide feedback, including copies of the audit checklists and suggested improvements to the Headteacher.
